The following Facebook Group “Army of the Men of the Naqshbandi Order” is an Islamic Jihadist terrorist organization using Facebook to target Contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan.

They are using Facebook to gather Intel on Contractors and their Families – including location [CONUS and OCONUS] and movement Intel.

Below is the Facebook page for their Facebook Group:

Army of the Men of the Naqshbandi Order

I have received dozens of emails about this from my buddies in Iraq and Afghanistan warning me of this group. Please remember to maintain OPSEC and check your privacy settings on your Facebook Page. For people like myself who are pretty public already there is not much I can do, but for everyone else lock down your Facebook profile and be aware of whose friend requests you accept.

If you are a contractor like I am one of the easiest things you can do is blur out your face on any pictures you post. And for fucks sake do not have your email, state where you live, phone number or any other identifying info visible to anyone including your friends.

Please see Norm W.’s Article on Facebook Privacy 101 for more detailed information on how to secure your Facebook Profile

Even better: delete your FB profile or once and all. Use LinkedIn for professional exchange (closed) and Twitter for updates/news. Twitter can be anonymous, too!

Also keep in mind.. A lot of us are not contractors but are friends with james g or other contractors on FB. If you were to look at some of my facebook pictures one might think I was a contractor because of shooting/ training pictures. So don’t think your 100% safe.

I think somethings going down. I just checked my FB and I got 11 friend requests from people iv’e never heard of. Its not normal for me to get 11 friend requests over night. I get maybe 1 every month. Somebody could be going through James G’s profile and trying to friend his friends to get a back door in.

Now let’s not get too paranoid folks, just be careful and follow Norms advice and you will be ok – lots of people farm my page for friends, mostly because they are looking for like minded people to add.

This warning is primarily focused towards the information on your FB profile that anyone can see

People, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you. It’s not just one of my tag lines, it’s one of the rules I live by.

None of us that are electronic sheep dogs are any safer from these scumbags. They can use us, our families, our friends, our information to get to those of you in a ‘shoot and scoot’ job.

Those of you out there that have nothing to do with ANYTHING military, LEO, or any emergency services are just as susceptible as well. I’ll be getting a post up to James to get up hopefully by the end of the week on some of the thought processes, etc of the mindset of a hacker and how they get into their targets. Some of it’s re-hashed, but I think it’ll be worth it considering this topic today.

Just keep in mind that Facebook is an ‘Open Book’. Even if you lock it down, stuff will still get out, especially if you play into those games and all the little apps that FB has on there. it’s not as secure as you think it is or think you can make it. If it weren’t for publishing my site on facebook, I don’t think I’d have an account on there any more. Same goes for all the other social media sites out there.

Just PLEASE be careful what you say, who you say it to, where you say it and who you friend on ANY social media site (linkedin included).

Came across this post randomly…. JRTN, as this group is known, is an active terrorist group within the Iraq AOR. However, the link you posted to their supposed Facebook page is what’s known as a community page. Facebook generates these anytime someone searches for something that doesn’t actually have a page. There is no JRTN Facebook page, at least not one that was created by a JRTN member. This of course does not rule out the notion that they may very well be trying to use Facebook to target civilian contractors, but based on my personal study of the group, I find it highly doubtful. Finally, whoever translated your ‘additional intel’ at the end is either an amateur, or a computer. That’s just awful. If you want to know more about JRTN, try this: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=JRTN&l=1

That page was specifically linked to in the emails I received as an example of who they were – the translation was made by one of those online automatic translators

My rule is that if I don’t personally know someone, I never add them as a friend. That might cut me out of some networking opportunities, but it also cuts down on the number of spam emails from Nigerian bankers as well.

Thanks for the article. Dad isn’t on FB but it’s a reminder that I need to be careful what I put up on my account to make sure he stays safe. If you’ve got family on FB and other social networking sites, please let them know that this is a serious issue. If they mention their dad/son/brother/husband is in BFE and especially if they include photos, that could further put the person at risk. Likewise, they can find the poster and cause harm to them as well.

One thing I’ve learned from the years from dad being a contractor and the news is that terrorists, muslim or any type, have no qualms about harming innocents if they can claim it furthers their cause. From insurgents beheading contractors & troops to Viet Cong killing village elders in front of the villagers, to my own experience when my missionary parents were murdered because they have aid to the wrong tribe in Rwanda. Thugs are thugs without regard to religion or politics and the information we put out on sites like FB (and anywhere) can come back to haunt us and our loved ones if we’re not careful.

Thanks for the reminder and the heads up.

Looks like its time to play cowboys and muslims.

In all seriousness, any contractors need a hand, let me know. I’ll do what I can to help protect you and yours.

Also Note – This kind of information is valuable to those that are past contractors as well – weather having served in the Middle Eastern Theater or not. Essentially, if you are, have been, or even know said contractors – you could be a potential target. Remind those that you know in the Past Contractor category as the older you are, generally, the “less technical” you are – I.E. More prone to reveling Information that they may not know they are reveling.

Remember: Just because it’s not face to face doesn’t mean it isn’t personal…

Gents,

James is correct, don’t be so paranoid….I think we should all embrace this info and push back and “give some love” back to the muj, like maybe send them a link to some of those great videos on youtube where the two young Iraqi lads decided to pull a train on the sheep…..Their is an old saying, “Keep your friends close but your enemies closer…….Just be careful, stay frosty and cover your six!

DO NOT JUST BLUR OUT YOUR FACE!
Gaussian blur algorithms can easily be reversed.

Use a solid fill object such as a square, circle, or other shape.

Or… Ditch Facebook, and for damn sake, make sure you dont have any Location Services running on your phones, or other electronics connected to your facebook, twitter, 4square, FlickR, or any other such applications/services.

Just because your profile is “locked down” doesnt mean your data can be had. Facebook is notorious for security flaws and other issues that allow users data to be leaked. Such as iPhone Apps that are connected to your FaceBook account. If your seriously concerned about OpSec, do your self a favor and STOP USING FACE BOOK.

there is only so much that we can do! we should of started the war on terror in the 1970′s, every country was in denial that these terrorist where going to be a big problem in the comeing years, we and everyone had their heads still in the cold war era train of thought and worried to much about the big countries ie, russia and china and there where so much thought to communism and merely entertained the thought of modern islamic radicals these guys are so full of shit due to the fact the their so called cleric’s have used this to influence the younger generation through mind games and brain washing and rewritten the koran with wrong intentions and miss representations of the true koran, thats what 8 to 9 hundred years old have they reread the orignal texts what idiots and zelites i think they must be dealt with accordingly by military might or of private independant companies who would search out and destroy the people and cells of just poor stupidity ,i know you say these guys have some smarts yeah maybe when they acted like real true good people , but i say they will not sway by mere words from us only cold hard steel and total destruction of the terror sects will do the job, they know nothing but pure total desregard of peoples life, the 5.56 and a whole lot of killing them is the only thing that will end terrorism. and of course us killing them out right we must take care of the seed before its grown up and become to large and expand globaly that was our mistake from the start we let them get to large and evasive and then we did not fully understand how large they had gotten
